Brooke Church

After rigorous training in a modern dance conservatory setting and a professional dance career, I realized the benefit of having an efficient, stable, and injury-free body. During my dance career, I experienced pain and injury from movement patterns and compensations. Pilates is the one form of movement I found after my career that assisted in reconditioning my body and re-balancing my muscular structure. Pilates is great at pinpointing the smallest of muscular imbalances; thus, the smallest changes can make a significant difference in quality of life.

Lifelong Dancer | Challenged by Hyper Mobility and Scoliosis

I love Pilates because it is a well-rounded movement practice.

Pilates has aspects of strength, stability, flexibility and coordination. Pilates is a mind-body practice. It is as much a neurological challenge as it is physical. I love challenging my clients to think through exercises that are complex in sequence or involve the activation of small muscle groups.

Pilates is a safe way to challenge and achieve strength and a deeper mind-body connection.

I am a highly skilled Pilates Instructor because

I am a fully certified Balanced Body Pilates instructor. I have been trained extensively on all Pilates equipment and the RedCord Active system.

The majority of my training was under the instruction of Erin Myers, a Balanced Body Master Instructor specializing in scoliosis correction. Training with Erin, I developed a passion for special populations. Especially those with scoliosis, spinal fusions and spinal injury. I have a keen eye for alignment and I enjoy taking my clients through a spinal map and giving them the ability to see their muscular imbalances. Once a client understands their imbalances, they are able to better work through their challenges.

My dance training was integral to how I teach Pilates. I always try to take my clients through sequences that push them physically.

I am continually trying to learn and further my Pilates education so that I can be the best possible instructor for my clients.

My teaching reflects many aspects of dance.

I like to keep my class flowing and always reach a point where high exertion is necessary. My focus tends to lie on correct form but my hope is to get my clients moving so that when they leave, they feel they have progressed in strength, stability, focus, and overall wellness.
